At ISRIC, Luis develops and manages Soil Information Systems, including the World Soil Information Service (WoSIS), and contributes to geospatial projects, ensuring standardised, quality-assessed soil data for global applications.

Luis joined ISRIC in 2021 as a Database/IT expert to support the development of harmonised global soil information products. He holds an MSc in Forestry and an MSc in Geographical Information Systems, Technologies and Applications. He is passionate about data science, applied computer science, geocomputation and life sciences. Luis is an enthusiast of open source and open data.

His professional career started in 2004 as a forest manager working on GIS and remote sensing and evolved into data science, data management, data visualisation, web development and computer science. He has worked in South America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East directly with acknowledged institutions such as IGP, Portuguese Geographic Institute; ITC, University of Twente, Masdar Institute, and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
