ISRIC - World Soil information takes the protection of your privacy very seriously and strives to provide services that are transparent, reliable, and focused on the individual. The personal data that is collected through the website as well as in the framework of (inter)national collaboration projects is processed in accordance with the 'General Data Protection Regulation' (GPDR), consolidated text Regulation (EU) 2016/679

GDPR is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy in the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). It also addresses the transfer of personal data outside the EU and EEA areas. The GDPR's primary aim is to enhance individuals' control and rights over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business.

The GDPR aims to protect the fundamental right of natural persons (data subjects). We comply with the principles for processing personal data. One of the core principles is that when processing personal data, a justification and a purpose are always required.

The purpose is the reason for which personal data will be processed. The possible justifications for processing personal data are included in the GDPR itself and include the following:
  a) permission of the data subject,
  b) executing an agreement with the data subject,
  c) compliance with a statutory obligation,
  d) protection of vital interests of the data subject
  e) performing a task of public interest, or
  f) for the purposes of the legitimate interests. If the purpose or basis cease to apply, you are no longer allowed to process personal data.

We apply the following principles:
  a) be accurate and transparent; inform the person concerned as fully as possible about the processing of his/her personal data
  b) process personal data only for the purpose for which it has been collected; further processing is generally not allowed
  c) limit processing only to the personal data that is necessary to achieve the purpose
  d) ensure that data are accurate and up to date
  e) store personal data only as long as required for the purpose
  f) ensure that personal data are secure.

On our website (www.isric.org), there are several places where you will be presented with the option to provide a response. For instance, this is how you would request feedback to a question or register for the annual SpringSchool. The data that you provide will be used exclusively to complete your request and not for any other purposes. Your information will not be shared with third parties without your consent, unless this is necessary to process your request. As such, we follow GDPR principles for 'data minimisation':  personal data should be ’adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed'.

ISRIC websites and applications utilise appropriate security systems and encrypted connections to protect your personal data against loss or any form of unlawful processing. These are governed by our Service Level Agreements with Wageningen University and the overall WUR Information Security Policy.

In compliance with data protection regulations, you may always request that we remove, or update, your personal registration details at any time. For this, please contact our Data Protection Officer (DPO).
