ISRIC - World Soil Information will attend the European Space Agency's (ESA) World Soils User Consultation Meeting (2-3 July 2019, Frascati, Italy). We have a special interest in Earth Observation (EO) data as an important source of co-variates for our space-time digital mapping of soil properties (SoilGrids), aimed at supporting monitoring and early warning of land degradation episodes and processes. Our colleague Dr Luís Moreira de Sousa is member of the Scientific Committee.

As indicated by the organisers, “the workshop will bring together stakeholders from different policy and user domains with remote sensing experts to discuss the requirement of a Soil Monitoring System utilizing space-based EO data with in-situ data and modelling. The focus will be on the potential use of existing and future planned space-based EO systems including data gaps and research issues of priority. The outcome of the workshop will be used to develop a roadmap of relevant research and demonstration activities supporting the development and implementation of a space-based EO Soil Monitoring System.”

Abstract submission closes on 31 May 2019.
