On 23 April, the Horizon Europe – Mission Soil Project – SoilWise organised a webinar on capacity and community building. The webinar brought together participants interested in soil data, knowledge sharing, and the growing SoilWise community.
The project provides an integrated access point for Europe’s fragmented soil data and knowledge, while strengthening trust and enabling sharing and reuse. The webinar highlighted progress in advancing FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles and introduced key updates, including the new SoilWise Metadata Catalogue interface and the Soil Companion chatbot, which support discovery of soil data and knowledge.
The Metadata Catalogue is developed as the single access point to European soil data and knowledge, and stores metadata from different repositories and soil mission projects outputs. In April 2026, 13,989 resources are linked in the catalogue. The catalogue can be accessed here.
The Soil Companion is an AI chatbot that allows users to ask questions related to soil, agriculture, or soil health. It changes facets to conversation, based on the soil information available in the catalogue. You can try the Soil Companion chatbot here.
