On 25 June, the ISRIC World Soil Museum will host a lecture titled Fashion footprints in soil: Fiber, mining and waste. The lecture will be presented by Dr. Anna Paltseva, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Departments of Agronomy and Horticulture & Landscape Architecture at Purdue University, USA, and founder of House of Soil, an initiative connecting soil science, sustainability, and fashion.

The lecture is organised by ISRIC, a partner in the CURIOSOIL project. The project, co-funded by the European Union and led by the University of Aveiro (Portugal), aims to deepen public comprehension of soil dynamics, establishing a connection between individuals and soil using hands-on experiences.

About the speaker

Anna Paltseva, Ph.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Departments of Agronomy and Horticulture & Landscape Architecture at Purdue University, USA. She is an urban soil scientist whose research focuses on urban soil contamination, soil health, urban agriculture, and sustainable land management.

Dr. Paltseva is the author of the Urban Soil Guide: A Field and Laboratory Manual, founder of House of Soil, an initiative connecting soil science, sustainability, and fashion, and a TEDx speaker whose talk What If Your Wardrobe Could Save the Planet? explores the relationship between soil health and the fashion industry. She is the recipient of the 2026 International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) Emma Marie Antonie Täuber Award and the 2023 Soil Science Society of America Soil Science Education and Extension Award.

She has presented internationally and leads community-based research and educational initiatives that advance urban soil health, environmental awareness, and public engagement with soil science.
