WATDEV Modelling Working Group Workshop and Mid-term Extraordinary Partnership Meeting
From April 9-11, ISRIC – World Soil Information hosted the 4th Modelling Working Group Workshop and the Mid-term Extraordinary Partnership Meeting of the WATDEV project in Wageningen, the Netherlands. The events marked a crucial moment in reaffirming the consortium’s commitment to promoting climate-smart soil, water, and crop management solutions in East Africa during the project's final implementation phase.
The Modelling Working Group meeting held on 9 April facilitated in-depth technical discussions on model simulations for study areas in Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan; model coupling and socio-economic post-processing; toolbox development. This was a crucial meeting for the core modelling partners to coordinate technical activities and a concrete action plan. The outcomes from these discussions were presented in the subsequent Mid-term Partnership Meeting on 10-11 April, where the consortium members updated project achievement to date; unanimously endorsed a formal request for a six-month no-cost extension to ensure all the activities are fully fulfilled; agreed on activity plans along with adjusted budget allocations.

About the WATDEV project
Funded through the European Union’s DeSIRA initiative and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the Climate Smart WATer Management and Sustainable DEVelopment for Food and Agriculture in East Africa (WATDEV) project is coordinated by the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies - Institute of Bari (CIHEAM-Bari).
As a key partner, ISRIC main activities focuses on i) Integrated and multi thematic modelling; ii) Participatory identification of best suiting and feasible scenarios for the implementation of BMPs and Innovations; iii) Customization and integration of modelling modules and planning functions – a toolbox development.
The project aligns with regional efforts to enhance climate resilience and sustainable water governance in transboundary agro-ecosystems.
