ISRIC – World Soil Information celebrated its 50th anniversary! This joyous occasion has been celebrated with an informal get-together of current and former colleagues, and friends of ISRIC on 8 September 2016.

Since 1966 ISRIC is dedicated to serve the international community with information about the world’s soil resources to support science and education, and to help addressing major global issues. The organisation has evolved from the International Soil Museum, located in Utrecht, to a global soil reference and information centre, now housed on Wageningen campus. Since 1989 it is accredited as World Data Centre for Soils (WDC-Soils) by the International Council for Science (ICSU).

The event on 8 September forms the nucleus of a number of activities dedicated to the 50-year anniversary. In their speeches, former director David Dent, Johan Bouma, and current director Rik van den Bosch addressed past, present and future aspects of ISRIC. During the event 2 new Honorary Fellows have been appointed.

As part of the anniversary activities, an interactive timeline is constructed which highlights important moments in the history of the institute.
