Current projects GEO-4 - ISRIC provides scientific support to UNEP’s Global Environmental Outlook and co-ordinates the activities of the GEO-4 Chapter 3 (Land) Working Group (Towards GEO-4 brochure) [April 2005 - June 2006] Chittagong Hill Tracts Improved Natural Resources Management (CHARM)The CHARM project will focus on improved management of natural resources in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in Bangladesh. The EU-funded project involves participation of ISRIC - World Soil Information, Universitat de Lleida, Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS), and Center for Environmental & Geographic Information Services (CEGIS). The project is coordinated by ISRIC and will start mid 2005. Booker Soil Manual - Revision 2004The Booker Tropical Soil Manual first appeared in 1984 and a second slightly revised edition was published in 1991. In recognition of the wide use of previous editions by soil scientists, agriculturists and engineers and as a text in universities, we are publishing a completely revised edition. The new version will be edited by JR Landon, DL Dent and AE Hartemink and will contain several chapters by other authors. Our aim is a concise, comprehensive and intelligible summary of soil-related methods, with guidelines for interpretation of soil and land evaluation data; a source book for professional scientists in the field, and a reference work for members of other disciplines. Land Degradation Assessment in Drylands (LADA) - Global project, implemented by UNEP/GEF and executed by FAO. ISRIC made a proposal for a methodology for the assessment of land degradation using remote sensing and ground control (currently under discussion for funding). ISRIC World of Soils- A virtual tour through the world of soils based on ISRIC's world soil reference collection. Executed as part of ISRIC's Internet Policy Plan; collaborative partner is Wageningen Software Labs (W!SL). IUSS website - ISRIC hosts and manages the IUSS website since April 2002. The site provides information on the IUSS, Divisions and Commissions and includes a list of upcoming meetings, hundreds of book reviews and the IUSS Bulletins.
