Layout of the museum
The museum displays soil monoliths with accompanying data including a full profile description, soil chemical and physical data, and information on the landscape and land-use.

About 60 of the 1000 soil monoliths are on display in the World Soil Museum. The museum has been arranged in such a way that visitors with different backgrounds and levels of scientific training can be served. The museum has three rooms:
In the Soils of the World all soil groups of the World Reference Base for Soil Resources are on display, including information on their extent, main properties and soil processes.
Soils and Society is a thematic arrangement of soils: Soils and Climate Change; Soils and Biodiversity; Soils and Water etc. This section illustrates the importance of soils in our daily lives and for the functioning of the earth system.
