Collaboration Agreement between JRC-IES and ISRIC
The European Community, represented by the Institute for Environment and Sustainability of the Joint Research Centre (JRC-IES), and ISRIC – World Soil Information have signed a Collaboration Agreement (No. 382771 S0SC) in December 2006.
ISRIC – World Soil Information is the World Data Centre for Soils of the International Council of Sciences (ICSU) and an institute for applied research. The mission of ISRIC – World Soil Information is to support cooperative research in the field of land resources.
The Commission's Joint Research Centre contributes to the improvement of scientific knowledge on soils and soil databases at European level, and acts as an independent adviser for other Commission services. The main objectives of the JRC in these areas are scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of EU policies.
Through joint efforts of JRC and ISRIC, new approaches will be identified and developed in the areas of global and regional soil and land resources, thus working to the mutual benefit of both organisations in the achievement of their objectives.
JRC and ISRIC have expressed their mutual desire to co-operate in the field of soil and land resources databases, documentation, reference collections, and their application to policy and management, and to work jointly in projects of common interest.
