Participation in policy advisory bodies and professional working groups

ISRIC staff are active, or have been involved recently, in various policy advisory bodies and professional working groups:

• Dr David Dent is a  member of a Technical Advisory Group of  the Global Environment Facility (GEF), a Lead author of  UNEPs' Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-4), and Board member of the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE) 
   
• Dr Alfred Hartemink is Deputy Secretary General of the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), the team leader for the Soils Theme of the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE), and a member of the Dutch National Committee for IYPE. He also served as secretary of the Subcommittee on Sustainable Systems for the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW; Chair: Prof. J. Bouma) as part of the BSIK (ICES/KIS3) funding round, and was Secretary and Treasurer of the Netherlands Society of Soil Science (NBV; 2001-2005)
   
• Dr Otto Spaargaren is Chair of the IUSS working group on the World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB) and a member of the European Soil Bureau Network (ESBN)
   
• Ir Stephan Mantel is Treasurer of the Netherlands Society of Soil Science (NBV) 
    
• Drs Godert van Lynden is member of the  Management Group of  WOCAT,  the  World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies
