Ir Niels Batjes - Head, World Data Centre for Soils; Land resources information systems, Soils
                        and climate change
                             
Niels is a soil scientist with over 25 years experience in developing land resources information systems for national and international environmental assessment and resource development, in the framework of international research and capacity building projects. He joined ISRIC in 1990, after having worked in East Africa and the Caribbean as a Land Evaluation Expert.  Niels has a special interest for research on soil carbon stocks and change, soil data analysis for continental and global environmental applications, and digital soil mapping. He is responsible for ISRIC's input to the GEF co-funded Carbon Benefits Project: Modelling, Measurement and Monitoring (CBP). Niels also manages the global WISE soil database and contributes to the implementation of the World Soils and Terrain (SOTER) program and various other international activities. As Head, World Data Center for Soils at ISRIC he coordinates the digitisation of ISRIC’s World Data Centre holdings to make them fully accessible through the internet (more ...)
