Stephan Mantel MSc - Land evaluation and decision support

Since joining ISRIC in 1994, Stephan has completed national scenario studies of the impact of land degradation on productive capacity in Kenya, Uruguay and Argentina; in-country training for soil survey and district government planners worldwide; and he advises the European Commission on environmentally informed land use and forest management planning in Europe and SE Asia. His focus is on national and regional assessments of degradation impact and land management planning. Recent projects include scenario studies for the Pan-European Erosion Risk assessment and assessment of the impact of desertification on food security in Zimbabwe. Currently he is working on the impact of water-saving agriculture on basin- and catchments level hydrology within the green water initiative.

Stephan speaks Dutch (mother tongue), English,  Spanish (excellent), Indonesian (good), German, French (fair).
