Drs. Hans van Baren has worked for the Land and Water Development Division of FAO and was Deputy Director of ISRIC. He was Deputy Secretary-General of the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) from 1990 to 2002. 

Hans van Baren is interested in educational aspects of soil science and the need for a wider public appreciation of the significance of soils in the human environment.
