ISRIC - World Soil Information has moved
ISRIC-World Soil Information has been housed for over 30 years in a building at Duivendaal 9 in Wageningen. Over time, fire safety regulations have become increasingly more strict in the Netherlands and the Management of the Environmental Science Group of Wageningen UR and the ISRIC Board have indicated that the legal implications in case of a fire incident with casualties are unacceptable. This means that all ISRIC staff had to move latest Friday November 27th, 2009.
The management of ESG did realize that the sudden move could have unforeseen consequences for ISRIC and has therefore created conditions to guarantee that ISRIC can continue its status as World Soil Reference Centre. The World Soil Museum and Collections will remain accessible. During the coming months, a detailed plan will be developed for improved housing of the Museum, storing of collections and other necessary issues.
The management of ESG fully supports ISRIC in the pursuit of its strategy as has been set out by the ISRIC staff over the past months to strengthen its unique position in the world. They will support to further embed ISRIC within a UN framework.
This move creates great opportunities to take major steps in advancing our effort in modernizing our housing and facilities to comply with new rules, to take advantage of up to date technologies, and to share knowledge with Wageningen UR colleagues.
ISRIC - World Soil Information is committed to strengthen its position as a leading institute in collecting, storing, processing and disseminating global soil and terrain information for research and development of sustainable land use and is much better positioned to reach this aim.
